From ‘Yesod’ to ‘Feldsher’, what attracts you more into the future?
Nizar Nassar: Mainly I wanted to embark on a different journey. “Yesod” was a fantasy experimental world where I had freedom and no constraints whatsoever to go about the story. It was bold and exciting experience however, as always, with the experimental work you can definitely lose your touch with form and context. I wanted to explore a more grounded reality story, and hence why “Feldsher”.
As a director and writer, what were the bigger challenges of doing ‘Feldsher’?
Nizar Nassar: The biggest challenge was definitely to showcase the production value and the futuristic setting with the limited budget and resources at hand. I had to be very selective and minimal in my approach to conserve money and ambition.
What was more complex to achieve with the visual effects in this movie?
Nizar Nassar: I think the most complex VFX was the futuristic/advanced mobile devices, which in the film lore, function as multi-tooling devices. The tracking and added layers of visuals are not as easy as they seem to be. Some of the shots require frame-by-frame adjustments and it needs a lot of effort, resources and focus.
What would you like to accomplish from this movie and its story, regarding the perception of the public?
Nizar Nassar: I always refrain from having a “specific” message from my works/films. I believe Cinema is a form of pure art and therefore it should definitely be open to interpretations and self-reflection, that being said… I hope the public can see the many-faceted technology we’re discussing here and that reality always comes with a lot of moral and anthropological baggage.
Going now into Nizar Nassar’s own future, what are your upcoming projects and next steps into your film career?
Nizar Nassar: I have 2 projects (feature films) in the script phase right now and another one in the pre-development phase. Hopefully I can embark on a feature film journey soon.
